Getting Started with Invisalign: What to Expect

More than 11 million people have straightened their teeth with Invisalign® clear aligners, and for good reason. More comfortable and more discreet than traditional metal braces, Invisalign is a versatile treatment that can straighten teeth, close gaps, correct crowding, and even correct bite issues δΈ€ for both teens and adults.

If you’re unhappy with your smile, the dentists at Arya Dental, Dr. Saeed Mokhayeri and Dr. Hengameh Safarcherati want you to know we offer Invisalign here in our Fullerton, California office.

Here’s what to expect when you’re getting started with this easy, effective, and convenient orthodontic treatment.

Qualifying oral exam

Before you start your treatment plan, our team performs an oral exam to ensure Invisalign is right for you. After examining your bite and reviewing your dental history, he goes over your orthodontic needs and smile makeover goals — and shows you how the Invisalign system can help you reach them.

Digital 3D imaging

After your oral exam, it’s time to take pictures of your teeth. Our team uses the iTero Element® scanner to quickly deliver high-precision 3D impressions of your teeth. This technology eliminates the need for messy physical impressions, which is great news for those with a strong gag reflex. The incredible accuracy of these 3D scans plays a big role in the comfort and efficiency of your Invisalign treatment.

Developing the plan

Next, our team uploads your 3D images to the Invisalign ClinCheck® software program, a computer-aided design (CAD) system that maps out the step-by-step movements needed to transform your smile. This exacting software is what makes Invisalign results so predictable: your entire treatment plan is mapped out in full detail, from your first clear aligner to your last.

Manufacturing your aligners

Finally, we send your 3D scans and treatment plan information to an Invisalign laboratory where your custom trays are created. Made from smooth SmartTrak® material, each tray is trimmed to fit comfortably around your gums.

Wearing your aligners

Once your Invisalign aligners are ready, it’s time to head back to Arya Dental for your initial fitting. During this visit, our team shows you how to position your aligners over your teeth, gives you detailed instructions for wear, and answers any questions you may have. In general, you can expect to:

The average treatment length is 12-18 months, but you’ll notice results in a few weeks as each new tray brings your teeth closer and closer to their ideal position.

Unlike traditional braces, you won’t have to deal with blisters or cuts from metal wires and brackets — Invisalign aligners are comfortable, smooth, and gentle on your enamel.

You also won’t have to avoid chewy or sticky foods for the duration of your treatment. Simply remove your aligners, eat what you want, brush and floss, and fit your aligners back over your teeth. We encourage you to keep an “Invisalign kit” in your purse or backpack that contains a toothbrush, travel-size toothpaste, and floss.
